GuysWithRides is proud to present Lot #26020 — a restored 1955 Ford Thunderbird, in a reserve-price auction on the platform built for serious enthusiasts. Bidding opened Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM Eastern and closed two weeks later at 4:00 PM Eastern on Thursday, April 30, 2026. This restored Baby Bird for sale is currently located north of San Antonio, Texas, and is ready to find its next home.
The 1955 Ford Thunderbird ranks among the most sought-after classic cars for sale in the American collector car market today, and for good reason. Ford introduced this iconic two-seater as its answer to the Chevrolet Corvette, deliberately positioning it as a “personal luxury car” — a distinction that set it apart then and drives demand among vintage Ford Thunderbird buyers now. Under the hood sits a 292 cubic inch (4.8L) Y-block V8 producing 193 horsepower, with an optional 198 hp Power Pack for buyers who wanted more performance. Power was routed through either a three-speed manual or Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. The chassis, derived from the 1955 Ford Fairlane platform, rides on a 102-inch wheelbase with independent front suspension and a live rear axle on leaf springs — a well-sorted package that makes this classic Ford Thunderbird for sale as rewarding to drive today as it was seven decades ago.
Collectors and classic car enthusiasts searching for a 1955 T-Bird for sale consistently prize the first-year model for its clean, uncluttered styling — the work of designer Frank Hershey. At 175.3 inches overall and approximately 2,980 lbs, it is a compact, purposeful machine with an all-steel body that outlasts the fiberglass Corvette of the same era. The removable fiberglass hardtop with its iconic porthole windows, the wraparound windshield, and the included soft convertible top are hallmarks that any serious vintage car buyer will recognize immediately. Drum brakes at all four corners and 6.70×15 bias-ply tires round out the period-correct specification. For anyone in the market for a classic American car for sale that delivers genuine style, historical significance, and proven collectibility, the 1955 Thunderbird checks every box.
With only 16,155 units produced in the 1955 model year — and a 0–60 mph time of roughly 9.5 seconds that handily outclassed much of the competition — the first-year two-seat Thunderbird is a genuine blue-chip collector car. Auction results for clean, well-documented examples consistently outperform the broader classic car market, making this an intelligent buy whether you’re a first-time collector or a seasoned investor in vintage American iron. Among all the two-seat T-Birds produced from 1955 to 1957, the ’55 commands a premium for its cleaner hood line (“pre-safety bump”), its originality of concept, and its status as the car that launched one of Ford’s greatest nameplates. When a 1955 Ford Thunderbird for sale appears on a trusted, dealer-free collector car auction platform like Guys With Rides, it never lasts long — and the right buyer knows exactly why.

This is the one that started it all. The seller first fell in love with Baby Birds as a teenager — and when this one surfaced just 40 miles from home four years ago, he didn’t hesitate.
The car underwent a comprehensive frame-on restoration in Florida in 2012. The drivetrain features an upgraded 12-volt electrical system. The rebuilt engine wears a number of chrome dress-up pieces that give the engine bay a show-ready appearance. A local Ford dealer in Florida completed the rebuild of the car’s Fordomatic transmission.
Finished in Snowshoe White with a red and white interior, the car presents beautifully — the VIN tag is present, though the trim tag is missing.
Since the acquisition roughly four years ago, it has seen approximately 2,000 easy miles, including a trouble-free leg of the 2025 Texas Hot Rod Tour. A pre-purchase inspection noted a clicking noise that has since been resolved — it was simply a loose fan shroud, which the seller addressed.
Other than tires that are due for replacement, this T-Bird needs nothing.
The seller is moving it on only to focus on a restomod ’65 Mustang build — a classic case of too many toys, not enough time.
