The family wants to find a good home for the father’s Thunderbird, so they agreed to offer the car AT NO RESERVE.

Bidding opened on Thursday, July 3, 2025, and closes one week later on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Alternatively, you can also obtain the car for the Buy Now price.

This 1962 Ford Thunderbird Landau for sale currently resides in Flemington, New Jersey.

The 1962 Ford Thunderbird Landau, part of the third-generation “Bullet Bird” series (1961–1963), is an iconic American personal luxury car known for its sleek design and refined performance. Introduced as a stylish evolution of the Thunderbird line, the Landau variant added a touch of sophistication with its distinctive vinyl roof and simulated landau bars, evoking the elegance of classic carriages.
The car’s exterior, designed by Bill Boyer, featured a streamlined, jet-inspired look with a low profile, chrome trim, and a prominent front grille, making it a standout in the early 1960s automotive landscape. Under the hood, the 1962 Thunderbird Landau was powered by a robust 390-cubic-inch V8 engine, delivering 300 horsepower in its standard configuration.  Paired with a three-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission, it provided smooth, responsive driving suited for cruising rather than racing. The interior was equally luxurious, boasting bucket seats, a center console, and premium materials, with options like power windows, air conditioning, and a Swing-Away steering wheel for added convenience.
The Landau model emphasized comfort and style, appealing to buyers seeking a blend of performance and prestige. Its suspension, featuring coil springs and a live rear axle, ensured a plush ride, although handling was less agile than that of sportier contemporaries. Priced around $4,600, it was a premium offering, competing with models like the Buick Riviera.
The 1962 Thunderbird Landau remains a collector’s favorite, celebrated for its bold design and cultural significance, often seen in films and media of the era. With approximately 73,000 Thunderbirds produced that year, the Landau variant’s unique styling and luxury features make it a timeless symbol of American automotive craftsmanship.

Our Co-Founder Rudy has been working on this car and here is his take:

I spent the better part of three full days bringing this Thunderbird Landau back from its estimated five-year in the long time owner’s garage.  The trim tag confirms the car is a genuine Landau model in the original color combination. The deceased owner commissioned a repaint along with a correct vinyl top replacement approximately ten years ago.

This 1962 Thunderbird Landau is a nicely optioned example featuring power steering, power brakes, power windows and a driver’s power seat.  The trim confirms the car left the Wixom factory with a black leather interior.

To get the car operable again, I had to replace the fuel pump and cleared the unit’s supply line,  The car now starts right up and idles nicely. Unfortunately, the car does not have good brakes at this time, so buyers will need to plan to trailer the car to their desired destination.

What impresses me most about the car is that it is a solid example with no signs of rust,  I rate the paint job as better than driver quality. In addition to the brakes, buyers will need to replace what appears to be a sticking thermostat.

This is a complete car that will make an easy project that someone can complete quickly and enjoy the balance of the summer and the fall. Please review my 90-point Pre-Purchase Inspection (“PPI) and videos to get a better handle on this project car.
