The 1964 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside is part of the first generation of the Chevrolet C/K series, produced from 1960 through 1966 and representing the first GM pickup trucks built on a dedicated truck platform rather than a passenger car derivative. The 1964 model year brought the most significant update of the first-generation run: a redesigned cab with a new flat windshield and revised A-pillar, eliminating the wraparound “dogleg” windshield used on 1960–1963 models. The change required new door stampings and brought a revised dashboard and door panel layout. It was also the final model year before air conditioning became a factory option, first offered in 1965.

The “C” prefix designates a two-wheel-drive configuration; four-wheel-drive half-ton trucks were designated K10. The Fleetside body features smooth, flush side panels integrated with the cab — as distinguished from the fendered Stepside bed. Both short-bed and long-bed configurations were available.

Bed & Wheelbase Options: Short-bed (6.5 ft bed) on a 115-inch wheelbase; long-bed (8 ft bed) on a 127-inch wheelbase. Overall length: 199.5 inches. Width: 74.5 inches. Curb weight: approximately 3,445 lbs. Body-on-frame construction using a drop-center ladder frame that positioned the cab seven inches lower than previous-generation trucks.

Engine Options: The base engine was the 230 cu. in. inline-six (“High Torque 230 Six”) rated at 140 horsepower. The optional 292 cu. in. inline-six produced 165 horsepower. The 283 cu. in. small-block V8, retuned to 175 horsepower for 1963 and carried over for 1964, was the top engine offering. Note: the 327 V8 was not available in the C10 until the 1965 model year.

Transmission Options: Three-speed synchromesh manual was standard, with column-mounted shifter. A four-speed synchromesh manual and the two-speed Powerglide automatic were optional.

Chassis & Suspension: Independent front suspension with coil springs, introduced to the C/K line in 1963 and carried over for 1964. Rear suspension uses a live axle with leaf springs. The drop-center ladder frame provides a lower center of gravity compared to the Task Force generation it replaced.

Trim & Equipment: Chrome grilles were not available on first-generation C/K trucks (1960–1966); the standard grille was white-painted, with a high-shine anodized aluminum grille available on deluxe-trimmed trucks. AM radio was the only factory audio option available through 1969. No factory air conditioning was offered for 1964.
