This L36-powered C2 Coupe currently resides with the owner of the past 55 years in Bonita Springs, Florida.
The 1967 Chevrolet Corvette, particularly when equipped with the L36 427 cubic-inch V8 and automatic transmission, represents a fascinating blend of raw American muscle and classic sports car elegance. The L36, generating a robust 390 horsepower, provided a thrilling driving experience characterized by its potent low-end torque. While the automatic transmission, often the 2-speed Powerglide, prioritized a smoother, more relaxed drive over outright performance, it catered to those who desired the Corvette’s iconic styling and formidable power with the ease of an automatic. This configuration, while perhaps not the choice of purist performance enthusiasts, created a unique driving dynamic. The 1967 Corvette, part of the legendary C2 “Sting Ray” generation, boasted a sleek, aerodynamic design with its distinct curves and low-slung profile, available in both convertible and coupe forms. Inside, the cockpit-like interior focused on the driver, featuring prominent gauges and optional comfort features like power steering and air conditioning. The independent rear suspension contributed to improved handling, enhancing the overall driving experience. As the final year of the C2 generation, the 1967 model holds a special place in Corvette history, and collectors particularly prize those equipped with the L36 engine. While not the most performance-oriented, the combination of the powerful L36 and the automatic transmission adds to the vehicle’s unique character and collectibility, representing a distinct chapter in the Corvette’s storied legacy.
The seller of this sympathetically preserved 1967 C2 Corvette for sale reports he has been the second owner for the past 55 years! The physician of the original Cleveland Browns originally purchased this Corvette. As the story goes, he did not purchase this Corvette for himself but rather as a graduation gift for his daughter! She used this Corvette as a daily driver for several years until the desirable 427 cubic inch engine was stolen from the car one night. Her insurance company “totaled” the car and that’s when the current caretaker stepped in.
The seller bought this C2 Corvette from the insurance company. Soon after, he found a replacement 427 cubic inch engine for $350, the equivalent of approximately $3,000 in today’s dollars. The seller’s 1967 C2 Corvette Coupe for sale is a well-optioned example featuring power windows and factory side exhaust pipes. The factory air conditioning has been converted to R134a refrigerant and the seller reports the system keeps the car cool on South Florida summer days. Over the years, the seller sympathetically preserved this C2 Corvette Coupe for sale by having the car repainted. While this C2 originally left the factory in it’s factory shade of Elkhart Blue (code 980 for 1967), the current caretaker preferred the look of Lynndale Blue when he had it repainted. Originally featuring a black vinyl interior, the seller had the seats reupholstered in black leather. The seller reports their 1967 Corvette coupe runs and drives well. The only item not working currently is the original factory radio.

Rudy's Review:
I love the back story about this 1967 C2 Corvette Coupe for sale! Not only is it a powerful example with a 427 cubic inch big block, but it is a nicely optioned example that makes it more of a luxury GT than a brute sports car. I prefer C2 Corvettes in this condition rather than over-restored, highly documented examples as this is a Mid-Year Corvette you can enjoy and drive rather than admire in your garage.
