The 1973 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe is the sixth year of the C3 generation and one of the most significant transitional model years in Corvette history. Of the 30,464 Corvettes produced for 1973, 25,521 were coupes. The 1973 coupe introduced a fixed rear window, replacing the previously removable unit, and retained the signature T-top removable roof panels. The front bumper was redesigned to meet new federal 5-mph impact standards, replacing the chrome unit with a body-color injection-molded urethane cover — while the rear chrome bumper was retained, making 1973 the only C3 year with this mixed front/rear treatment. Steel side-impact door beams were added for the first time.

Engine Options: Three V8s were offered. The base L48 was a 350 cu. in. small-block rated at 190 horsepower. The optional L82 was also a 350 cu. in. small-block, upgraded to 250 horsepower. The top option was the LS4 — a 454 cu. in. big-block Turbo-Jet V8 rated at 275 horsepower, making 1973 the final model year the big-block engine was offered in a production Corvette. All 1973 engines were equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system and Air Injection Reactor (AIR) smog pump to meet federal emissions standards, and were compatible with regular, no-lead, and low-lead fuels.

Transmission Options: The standard transmission was a Muncie M20 4-speed wide-ratio manual. The M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual was available as an option. The M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic 3-speed automatic was a no-cost option with the L48 and a $97 upcharge with the LS4.

Chassis & Suspension: All-welded ladder-type frame with steel-reinforced fiberglass body. Four-wheel independent suspension — front uses SLA-type coil springs with center-mounted shock absorbers; rear uses a three-link arrangement with frame-anchored differential and transverse leaf spring. Four-wheel disc brakes and Positraction rear axle were standard. The optional F41 heavy-duty suspension package added stiffer front springs and a rear anti-sway bar. The Z07 Off-Road Suspension and Brake Package was available exclusively with the L82 or LS4, required the M21 close-ratio transmission and power brakes (J50), and could not be ordered with air conditioning. Wheelbase: 98 inches. Overall length: 184.7 inches.

Tires: 1973 was the first model year to offer Goodyear radial tires on a Corvette.

Exterior Colors (10 available): Classic White, Silver, Medium Blue, Dark Blue, Blue-Green, Elkhart Green, Yellow, Metallic Yellow, Mille Miglia Red, and Orange.
